About Judas Priest
Few heavy metal bands have achieved the legendary status of Judas Priest over their 50+ year career. Their influence remains immense, with 2018's "Firepower" being their highest-charting album, a 2010 Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance," and inductions into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Formed in 1969 in Birmingham, England, the band featured Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, K.K. Downing, and Ian Hill, who together redefined heavy metal with iconic albums like "Sad Wings of Destiny," "Sin After Sin," and "Hell Bent for Leather."
The '80s solidified Priest's dominance in the metal scene with classic albums such as "British Steel," "Screaming for Vengeance," and "Defenders of the Faith," spawning anthems like "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight." They became global arena headliners, performing at major festivals like Monsters of Rock and Live Aid. The band continued evolving, releasing "Painkiller" in 1990, and embracing new sounds with albums like "Turbo" and "Ram it Down." Despite K.K. Downing's departure in 2011, Judas Priest remained vital, invigorated by Richie Faulkner's addition and delivering powerful performances and albums like "Redeemer of Souls."
In 2018, "Firepower" marked another peak in their career, followed by successful tours despite the COVID-19 pandemic interruption. Celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2021, they resumed touring in 2022 after Richie Faulkner's recovery from heart surgery, culminating in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. In 2023, Judas Priest announced their 19th studio album, "Invincible Shield," set for release in 2024, with the lead single "Panic Attack" debuting in October. The band shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to spread their unique brand of heavy metal worldwide.
